Gusty winds, nice people

I learned two lessons today: First, when the winds are gusty, be sure that my canvas can’t fall face down onto my wet palette. Fortunately, I’d used up most of my paint when this happened, but I still had to wipe portions of the canvas and repaint it.

Bush Park 1Second, when someone asks really good questions about my art, I should return the favor by asking if he’s an artist. I was utterly flustered between the effects of the wind and the fact that people hardly ever talk to me here. That’s no excuse for being so self-absorbed that I forgot my manners.

One other lesson, reinforced: If I carry binder clips with me, I can use them to grip the painting (canvas board) to carry it home easily.

This morning’s plein air painting: Departing clouds at Bush Park, oil paints on 8″ x 10″ canvas board.
