Day one, Bush Park dawn

Early Thursday morning, I took about 50 photos in George Bush Park as the sun was coming up. The colors were especially warm and vivid because the sunrise was almost orange. I want to paint several variations from those photos.
This photo, at right, is one of half a dozen that I’ve combined in a tone sketch for one painting. The setting is next to a pond at the Houston side of the park.
So far, I’ve sketched the landscape and covered it with a wash of cadmium red as an underpainting. I’ve also scrubbed in the basic tones and colors.
Now, this canvas will dry for awhile, and I’ll go back to it later when it’ll be easier to see what I want to do next. I know that the green is too vivid and cool; there will be more orange worked into areas of the grass. I’ll add the trees later, too.
